The Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking (CAST) is yet another non-profit organization committed to assisting victims of both forced labor and slavery-like practices. Based out of Los Angeles, CAST’s approach to influencing change is by empowering survivors to be their own advocates for change. CAST also provides “provides comprehensive long-term services through a three-pronged empowerment approach which includes Social Services, Legal Services, and Outreach and Training” to these victims. In addition to empowering victims, CAST also educates those of us who have not been victimized, and provides various ways for us to affect change. For example, visitors to the online “Chain Reaction Store” can send letters to their favorite companies, asking them to commit to making consumer products without forced labor. Vistors can also view company responses to these letters as they are received. We sent a letter to Anthropologie. Who will you send your letter to? It only takes two seconds.
