Hunger in our hometowns

Last week I had the opportunity to volunteer at a community services center that serves and works with the homeless and unemployed. Along with a team of volunteers, together we unloaded trucks with donated food. We also organized, sorted, and crated the donations. Everything from cereal, to rice, to soup, and applesauce was donated. While sorting the food, it was there that something resonated within me; while there are so many homeless and hungry people across the world, there are thousands starving right here in my home town. Of course I knew this, but it was then that it truly became a reality.

In my home town of San Diego, it is estimated that more than 7,500 homeless people live here.* That’s a lot of hungry people. Thankfully, there are so many services that can help eliminate poverty and hunger. We have to take it into our hands to make sure that number continues to grow smaller.
