Bead for Life

Bead for Life is a Fair Trade Certified non-profit organization that “works to eradicate extreme poverty by creating bridges of understanding between impoverished Africans and concerned world citizens. Ugandan women turn colorful recycled paper into beautiful beads.” The Northern Ugandan artisans are rebuilding their lives after being “displaced by the 20 year war led by Joseph Kony.”

You can help by: hosting a bead party, buying beads, teaching about BeadforLife’s curriculum, or making a donation.

How Bead for Life works:

1. Members craft beads and immediately begin entrepreneurial training.

2. Beadparties are held in North America and Europe by people like yourself. Over 10,000 to date! The profits from Beadparties and online jewelry sales go into training and community programs in Uganda and education in North America.

3. After 17 months the members graduate. In 2012 the program will surpass 1,000 graduates!

4. 85% of graduates have opened a business, built a home, or done both during their membership. 132 now own homes. 10,000 family members have benefited.
