A Tribute to Nelson Mandela

I never met  Nelson Mandela so I don’t really feel like I have the right to comment on his passing…and yet here I am. To call Mandela “great” is to understate the obvious; Mandela was a visionary, a champion for social justice, and a shining exemplary of what it truly means to forgive. The world lost a hero today–one that can never be replaced. Let us never forget his legacy and how he used the power of reconciliation to transform a racially torn nation into a united nation of greatness.

Afskeid, Madiba. You will be missed.

Typhoon Haiyan Update/How You can Help

Here’s an update on the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan by BBC News. In brief, although the death toll isn’t as high as originally anticipated, there has been a lot of damage and millions of people are displaced. In the midst of all the destruction and chaos, a number of non-profits are working on the ground to bring relief to the Filipino people during this time of dire need. Here are some examples of ways you can help:

Donate to UNICEF, an organization dedicated to providing relief to children.

Send a free shipment of goods or other necessities through LBC.

Support the Doctors without Borders team providing medical supplies and on-site medical treatment to those in need.

Spread the Word! The more people who help, the faster we can avoid any further casualties of this horrific event.
